A Unique Values Proposition...
Oct 11, 2023| The Mistake About Values |
When it comes to the #values of an organisation, #businessowners, #leaders and #founders often make the popular mistake of thinking that there must be a values #alignment to work with people.
I get the logic, but it's a mistake because if you judge people on having the same or similar values, the consequence is you could be missing out on opportunities, partners, and team members who could be outstanding #stakeholders in fulfilling your purpose!
I know, I know, I know. I can hear people already…
“Are you saying I should work with people or partners that don’t fit with our values???”
No, I am not saying that at all. I am asking you to look at it slightly differently. You see, values are the guardians of your purpose. The #protectors.Instead, as a #decisionmaking filter, look for where the decision, person, or partner rejects at your values.
“My values don’t have to be the same or similar to yours for us to work together. However, if one of mine or yours rejects the others, then we will have a problem.” - a #Clarism
The result of this thinking is greater opportunities and easier decision-making by the team, and it will ensure you don’t stray or cause reputational damage to your purpose.
So next time, when you think about your values, don’t seek alignment…look for where the situation rejects at one or more of your values. Imagine an enemy trying to get at you, but you are protected by a powerful shield that rejects the attempt to get to you and your purpose.
This way you #empower your team to make smarter #decisions while protecting your purpose in the process.
