Getting Everyone On The Same Page

leadership strategy Mar 22, 2023

Have you ever felt like not everyone was on the same page in your business?

It's frustrating when there are conflicting agendas, mixed priorities, and overlap happening, and I'm just talking at the senior leadership level.

Imagine then attempting to get all your employees on the same page with all that going on.

 Pfft. Good luck with that..

Many businessowners we speak with struggle at getting everyone on the same page. That is because they don't have alignment on both required parts of the business on one roadmap.

 What are the two parts?

I'm talking about a roadmap that articulates with clarity, the alignment of culture with the direction of strategy.

When we survey team members of companies, we find that while most businesses have an articulate strategy, the team site that they don't know it...nor their involvement in it. They also don't see the connection to purpose, values, vision, and mission of the business.

What many owners or leaders have is more like a business model. It tells everyone what we do, and how we make money. There is little or no narrative or story for the team to buy into and get involved in. Nor does it assure that we will evolve and stay relevant!

"Every business model has a shelf life. Has yours expired and you just don't know it yet?" - a Clarism

It’s a mistake to focus just on the business model rather than on the big-picture narrative and story because a business model doesn’t tell us what we’re building together or why. It isn't inspiring, engaging, or empowering.

Primarily, it just tells your team how you are going to get rich today.

"Gee I can't wait to make the boss rich today, said no one ever!" - a Clarism

The consequence of not having a roadmap that brings focus onto both culture and strategy in alignment is competing or conflicting agendas, confusion at the leadership level and a lack of buy-in won't support the team in bringing their best self to work every day...and execution will suffer due to lack of focus

Teamwork requires everyone to be on the same page, in the right position, doing the right things, at the right time, for the right reasons.

It’s best to reverse-engineer your business's end objectives by building a map of what must be accomplished to get there in a clear logical sequential order. People will understand how their daily tasks contribute to the company's strategy and culture alignment.

The results will be a team who:

 1. Are engaged by the reason they come to work

 2. Empowered to make smarter decisions

 3. Are inspired by a future they are creating together

 4. Understand that the business needs to evolve

 5. Know what must be accomplished

 6. Be involved in how to do it

So next time, get clarity, alignment, direction, and focus—and create a business roadmap for yourself—you will have your best year ever!
