The Most Important Question In Business

“If you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything”

… was one of the first truths I was taught when I started on my business journey, perhaps even truer today.

“Fair call”, I thought. I’m solid, I know what I stand for.

As a big strong tough 23 year old I thought I knew. Until I was promptly put under the microscope like the little ant that I felt like I then shrunk to and was demanded answers to the following questions:

Who are YOU?

What do you stand for?

What do you still stand for under pressure?

What do you believe and why?

What if anything would make you change your beliefs?

What are your Core Values?

What are your non-negotiable standards?

What would you DIE for?

Is it possible that when we know the answers to these questions, decisions about EVERYTHING in life – business – relationships – whether you should have cake for breakfast - are really simple?

In identifying what the ‘right’ decision for us is perhaps.

But the test comes when we actually get to put into practice said simple decision.

Not always not so easy.

But full of honour.

And might it also be honourable to remember that your truth – what you value – is your truth.

Perhaps not THE truth.

And is there a difference?
