TIME TO REIMAGINE
May 24, 2023Our business exists to evolve leaders and businesses to stay relevant so they don't #grow out of business. We don't want you to become one of the many examples in the world.
In today's ever-changing business landscape, simply creating a new #strategy is no longer enough.
Not only do businesses need to reimagine their strategy, but they also need to reimagine their approach to strategy if they want to remain #competitive in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) world.
This means moving beyond the traditional "how to" of strategy and focusing on "what must be accomplished" instead. It also means shifting the focus from profit and revenue as the drivers of strategy to the #mission of the business as the determining factor.
To understand why this shift in strategy is necessary, we must first accept that there is an unpredictable nature of events in today's business world. #Disruptive technologies, unforeseen market changes, and unexpected events can all cause sudden bursts of activity that can quickly disrupt an organization's plans.
This adds complexity to the traditional approach to strategy, making it difficult to predict their outcomes or anticipate their effects.
Given this #unpredictability and #complexity, a traditional approach to strategy that simply focuses on the "how" of accomplishing goals is no longer effective.
Instead, companies must focus on the "what" that must be accomplished in order to remain relevant and competitive. This means reimagining strategy as a means of achieving a mission, rather than just hitting a #profit or #revenue target.
"What must be accomplished becomes mandatory. When and how we get there is arbitrary." - a Clarism
To do this, companies must first define their mission in a clear and meaningful way. This means going beyond the traditional mission statement and identifying the specific goals and objectives that will drive the organization forward. By focusing on these goals, companies can create a strategy that is aligned with their mission and aligned with their purpose, rather than simply focusing on the bottom line.
In addition to reimagining the "what" of strategy, companies must also rethink their approach to implementation. This means embracing agile methodologies that allow for quick #adjustments and #adaptations in response to the unpredictable and complex nature of the world we are moving into. By adopting an agile approach to strategy, companies can remain flexible and responsive to changing market conditions, without losing sight of their core mission and objectives.
Ultimately, the shift to a mission-driven approach to strategy is necessary if companies want to evolve and stay relevant let alone competitive in today's VUCA world.
By reimagining their strategy and focusing on the "what" that must be accomplished, rather than simply the "how," companies can stay relevant and agile in the face of uncertainty and change. And by embracing a mission-driven approach, companies can move beyond profit and revenue as the end game, and instead, focus on creating meaningful impact and value for all stakeholders.
